Music Monday #3: Cowboys from Hell on Guitar Hero

So I'm back on Guitar Hero and I finally got the very first game. Soon as I got it, I didn't bother trying the songs in Medium but started Career Mode, with my band ChinickChicken Cola, at HARD.

I'm almost done, at 28/30 songs conquered.

But it seems like I will never be done! I am stuck at Cowboys from Hell, and even if I move on to try the last song Bark at the Moon I don't succeed! Hay.

How have you met your bride?

Personally, I don't know any mail order bride so I don't have even second-hand information to have an educated opinion on whether signing up to be one will make you miserable or happy. Or how the whole system works.

I don't have statistics to back me up, but I'm pretty sure that with my countrymen (and women) working and living in most (if not all) countries all over the world, there's been thousands (if not millions) of Filipinas who have found love in foreign husbands. Some they met through their work, or through friends and relatives; some they met online. And some, I guess, have met their husbands through dating or match-making services, like this christian mail order bride service. Let me just state that I am in no way generalizing all Asian and Filipino women married to foreigners. We are a beautiful and blessed race and we don't all prefer to go through professional dating services to find our mister right. I at least acknowledge that there are some who do.

There have been so many stories of chat rooms being the venue for abuse. A place where sometimes, women and child trafficking start. Of course, it could also be a place where abuse of the poor old man looking for a young wife takes place. So I guess such a service as what the couple from Plano has started does serve a good purpose. Perhaps they provide a safe avenue for young women to find the better life (and love) that they are looking for, just as they provide that to the American men who sign up with them. 

The owner of the site also has a Philippine bride, and they have been together for seven years. Now she is part of the business too.

I am neither for or against these services. But I am concerned of the women (no matter what race they belong to) that are part of these. I pray that they are not taken advantage of, and in return they also don't take advantage of others.

Au naturel

I have found that as much as I want to improve on my photography, the progress has been slow. That is, if I were to measure myself against others who are taking fashion shots, and portraiture. 

One of the main reasons this is so, I think, is because I haven't really allowed myself the chance to try portraiture. At least not the type where I have to figure out lighting and poses before I fire off a shot. 

My main motivation for buying my Maxine is to be able to document the events of our lives with better photographs. So I guess, I wasn't really thinking of going into portraits, or wedding photography. I'm into more of informal portraiture. I feel that these types of photos tell more stories, and elicit a lot of memories - both happy and sad.

I like the idea that many years from now, friends and family will enjoy going through my albums because it allows them a glimpse of their past lives. If they remember the tastes, the sounds and smells of those scenes, then that would be even more wonderful!

One of the most cherished compliments I get is when someone says - I love this photo, I didn't even know you were taking it! That gives the person much joy, and it does the same for me.

I saw this video on Goin Bulilit around two Sundays ago. I love these two kids, and seeing them on this video just cracked me up. I was laughing the whole time!
