I have 3 blogs (4 counting my first one), all in different free bloghosting platforms. I also own a domain (verabear.com) and one might think, why not just host my blog there, so I won't have to bother thinking about content? Well I got my domain for free and have free hosting which, at this time, doesn't support the infrastructure that would allow me to fully integrate my blogs on there.
For those who are thinking about setting up their own website or if you just want to have your own unique address for your blog, you've got to think of the domain name. Simply put, the domain name is the friendly name for your site or blog's location in the WWW. You may want to use your name, your company name, a word or phrase that represents what you would want your site/blog content to be. First you must decide what you'd like to have plus the extension (.com, .org. .net, etc), and then you need to check if it's still available.
If the domain name you want is still available, you'll need to register that with a domain registrar. There are plenty of them out there, and you can take your pick among the company the will give you the best deals (read: cheap
). Domain registration is a simple straight-forward process.
Once you've registered your domain, you'd have to move on to finding a web hosting company. Set that up and then publish your site and blog to your heart's content!
