I've been toying with the idea of setting up an online shop for jewelry that my cousin and I would make right from home. I have purchased bangles (lots) online and it was really a smooth experience. The shops I bought from also carry shoes, blouses and bags (I got a couple of those too). The only thing that I found not so efficient about the whole experience was having to wait for the seller's response to find out whether the product is on stock, then having to go to an actual bank to make the payment, and finally waiting for confirmation.
Having done shopping at digital scrapbooking stores I've come to have an idea of how a shopping cart software makes an online seller's job so much easier. I appreciated the whole deal about ecommerce now as a customer; now I know why customers of a Web hosting service we used to support were complaining about the lack of ecommerce functionality.
I have an online friend (
@ Tracy) who designs digital scrapbook kits. I'm trying to convince her to set up shop herself although she did mention one time that she'd rather offer her kits for free. Maybe if I could help her setup the shop complete with a shopping cart, she'll reconsider.
So I went out and about in the WWW looking for information on shopping cart software. One of the top results included Ashop Commerce. It isn't free, as I hoped it would be, but I must admit that it offers quite interesting features. There are two demo sites on their website to help one decide and familiarize oneself on the product. The demos have an admin part and a store front side.
I think the selling point for Ashop is that there's no software to install on your own server (which is awesome) and you can pretty much control your store anywhere you have a computer with Internet connection.
The sign up and setup seem easy enough. For sellers who don't have their own domain yet, or don't want to redelegate their main domain to the shop need not worry. There are options to make a subdomain or even use the free temporary domain name that Ashop provides. That's a perfect solution for those who are still trying out if Ashop is the best ecommerce software for them.
