When I first heard of digital scrapbooking I was only interested in being able to make beautiful layouts and sharing them digitally - by posting it through my website/blog or gallery and sending links to friends and families. Then I saw this Photo Printing shop nearby that offered printing of photo books. The designs and layouts in the sample photo books they had there is far lower in quality than the ones that are normally posted in digiscrapping galleries, but the quality of the print out itself was, for me, of good quality. When I asked about the cost of having it printed, it wasn't that expensive, but I was still thinking if there were other alternatives.
At that time we had no printer, but I was thinking that even if I had one, I may not be able to afford buying ink every once in a while just to print my layouts. I also thought that photo paper was expensive - and I learned last Christmas that they're not!
I finally got a free printer (a regular sized one that can print document-sized pages) when I bought our digital camera before Christmas this year. We got an Epson. Their inks, I think, are also one of the cheapest out there but still not cheap, if you know what I mean. But to really save up, I figure I'd give ink refills or other sources of inks other than the ones with the Epson brand you could regularly buy in computer shops.
I remembered talk going around that it isn't recommended to buy ink refills and the like; they say that those will make your printer go bad. But those Ink stations are still in business, are they not? I mean, if they're no good, wouldn't people stop buying them? Anyway, I think that remanufactured inkjet cartridges, aside from being more affordable, also help the environment because these are made from recycled OEM cartridges.
I also found this website, http://inkers.biz that offers brand new (without the brand) and remanufactured inkjet cartridges with a one year guarantee. Now, if they are willing to refund your money if the product doesn't work then they obviously trust their product. They offer rebate options too if you buy a lot from them, and there's free shipping in the US too!
Ok I got a bit carried away with all this talk on low cost ink, just that I think that's my key to low cost photo printing. I wonder if I could find a local Inkers right here that would give me the same guarantee on their products?
